Description

The Southern Tadpoles is the same target for my APOD of May 6, 2022, but shot with my main camera and a different palette this time. The open star cluster NGC 3572 (top centre) and its more prominent neighbours the emission nebula Southern Tadpoles also known as Gum 37 are in the southern constellation of Carina. The cluster also contains a planetary nebula designated PN G290.7+00.2 not really studied in detail in the past but now considered as a Photo-evaporating Globule and assigned the name PhJa 1. The cluster measures about 100 light-years across and is about 9,000 light-years away.
